Introducing our newest family member

I’m super excited to introduce our newest family member - born on 22 December 2022 at 1:23am (a nice batch of numbers, I think).

I (Jen) am a super proud Dad!

Charlotte Bodhi (Charlie) came naturally, though not easily! After a bit of back and forth, she was born with the assistance of forceps, and the looming threat of a C-section. Her mum (Kate) did an amazing job through labour and birth!

We cannot fault the care we received at Greenslopes Private Hospital - 4 nights in hospital, including 3 nights in an absolute penthouse of a room (it had a double hospital bed, and a ‘sitting area’ with chairs and a coffee table).

On the evening of 24th December, we had to let go of our girl for up to 24 hours so she could spend time under the disco lights in Special Care, in order to treat her jaundice. Jaundice is very common (a near certainty) with forcep births, due to the tiny body breaking down the bruising. We were able to keep visiting and feeding her, though, and we broke her out for 90 minutes on Christmas day, and got her back at about 5pm Christmas night.

After arriving home on 26th December, we spent some time getting to know each other.

The Blue Ribbon family are extremely excited to have a new family member! Aunty Jac (my sister, and the person who replies to your e-mails most of the time) is very excited, and Gran (Jean, the tax contractor who helps me out during busy season) is very pleased to have another grandchild.

Baby Charlie is now nearly 4 weeks old, and is starting to take notice of the world around her. Every day brings new rewards and new challenges - some days I’m much better rested than others!
